Galvin
El Cerrito, California
The Galvin Studio sits on a large lot in the El Cerrito hills with views of the Golden Gate, where a working artist needed a space to nurture inspiration and room to expand her practice.
An open studio layout allows for expansive natural light and views while keeping things simple. With an eye toward durable, utilitarian, finishes, the studio finds a balance between raw workspace and warm home addition.

A Mountain Sage green shingle finish complements the traditional wood shingle cladding of the main house while tonally blending in with the lush vegetation of the backyard.
The studio offers abundant wall space for hanging paintings, while simultaneously providing three large windows facing the spectacular view towards the Golden Gate Bridge. The space is flexible enough to act as a working studio space one day and a private gallery for showing new work the next.
A small kitchen area provides space for cleaning up around the studio, tucked behind which is a fully equipped bathroom area, including a walk-in shower and additional storage space.
